World of Threads Festival – Interview with Emma Nishimura of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

 

Emma Nishimura from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, draws a lot of inspiration for her artwork from the complicated history of her grandparents.  They were interned as Japanese Canadians in WWII.  Using photographic records, she explores the relationships and interactions between the sites where these stories occurred and the memories themselves.  Emma has also traveled to these locations, witnessing what remains, forming new memories – an extension and continuation of the original story.

World of Threads Festival – Interview with Robert Davidovitz of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

 

Robert Davidovitz from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a fibre artist with a difference.  Robert is a weaver.  However, he does not use wool, yarn or other kinds of fibre in his woven art pieces.  Instead, his works with acrylic paint.  Robert extrudes the paint into strands.  When dry, he uses the traditional technique of hand-weaving the strands of dry paint to create his art pieces.
